Dates: September 2025
Location: Intuición Materna in Guatemala city
Details: As part of the OBAA’s commitment to improving maternal health and birth outcomes globally, 3 members from the OBAA went to Guatemala and provided a Maternal Acupuncture training for a group of midwives, doulas and birth workers. The trainees work throughout Guatemala and El Salvador, serving both urban and rural populations and had recently completed their basic acupuncture training via 3 separate week-long acupuncture trainings with the Global Acupuncture Project (GAP), and so they were familiar with points and protocols for the treatment of common health complaints.
The OBAA has created its own basic manual for the midwives that address common pregnancy, birth and postpartum conditions and complaints (Spanish and English editions). The training was one week long and involved, in class learning and practice, point location and clean needle technique review and an open free clinic for pregnant people, their family and support.
The training was a success, and we continue to get positive feedback via a WhatsApp group with the trainees.
Well done team!
